Valby Ruta Project

Circus Project produced by Boy Le Bet

Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal is happy to host VALBY RUTA Project for a two-week creative residency.

The VALBY RUTA Project is a physical and virtual space which strives to promote the diversity of the circus movement scene blossoming in Montreal. Through short form videos and events,  the aim is to promote, as well as research and share raw and liberating circus experiences. They aim to support artists by giving them a platform to experiment, to expose themselves and to be seen.

Their beloved carpet, VALBY RUTA, represents a neutral space in which artists are given a “carte blanche” to create their atmosphere.

The VALBY RUTA Project was imagined by Tuedon Ariri, Brin Schoellkopf, Basile Herrmann Philippe and Una Bennett. The project is funded by Boy Le Bet and funded by the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec.

For these two weeks in the studio, they are inviting seven artists working on two different projects :  Issac Endo and Basile Philippe, as well as Le projet Sanctuaire (Arthur Morel Van Hyfte, Guillaume Paquin, Olivier Sylvestre, Marie Lebot, Tuedon Ariri).

About the artist

“Le projet Sanctuaire is formed around the desire to offer a breathing and inspirational space for everyone through a hypnotic landscape and performances”. It is a performance-exhibition – an encounter between circus, dance and visual arts.

Throughout this residency, the artists will also create three videos about their process.

This creative residency is visible to the public in Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal’s spaces from Sept 2 to 13, 2020.
