Selfie Project, 9th edition

Véronique Duplain

Véronique Duplain is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Montreal. In the past years, she has explored different aspects of photography as a medium before moving on to the #SelfieProject, now in its ninth edition.

A true creative marathon, Duplain stages herself in various narrative universes and takes one self-portrait per day throughout the month of February. Posted daily on her social media platforms, the photographs address current themes of education, mental health, finances, mindfulness, self-acceptance and the world of communications. These self-portraits offer more than a simple entry to the artist’s personal universe: they can be read, notably, under the perspective of social criticism.

The process behind Véronique’s photographs reveals the complexity of her approach. She is in charge of all aspects of production, from the conception of the initial idea to the digital retouching of the image, and even the scenography.

The final result of her work, which takes the form of a visual diary of 28 color prints, is presented in the center of the multiple decors, allowing the viewer to explore Duplain’s creative process.
