Biennial ELEKTRA - Illusion

7th International digital art biennial

Tickets on sale - April 30th, 2024

Presented by ELEKTRA since 2012, the largest exhibition dedicated to digital art in North America returns to Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal.

The 7th edition of Biennial ELEKTRA addresses ILLUSION, a reflection on the post-factual, post-truth and alternative reality era of current society, a subject that is shaking up the news. Indeed, the proliferation of digital communication technologies and tools from artificial intelligence (AI) contribute to disinformation, notably deep fakes. This denial of reality is already negatively impacting the lives of billions of people and even more problematic consequences are to be expected.

For this fifth collaboration in partnership with Arsenal contemporary art, curator Alain Thibault invites around twenty artists from three continents to study this issue of the perception of truth and falsehood, while exploring the field of speculative fiction.

The public will be led to question the very existence of certain works, due to their ephemeral, immaterial or even invisible nature, on the basis of a necessary, unfailing credulity towards the artist.

About ELEKTRA

Founded in 1999, ELEKTRA presents and promotes works created at the intersections of contemporary art and new technologies, inscribed in the latest aesthetic currents of research and experimentation. Its main activities are: the ELEKTRA International Digital Art Festival which showcases audiovisual, immersive, participatory and robotic artistic performances since 1999. The International Digital Art Biennial (BIAN), created in 2012, is a large exhibition featuring unique and innovative works at the intersections of new technologies and contemporary artistic creation. As an addition to its first virtual exhibitions, in 2022 ELEKTRA opened the EVM – Elektra Virtual Museum – a unique and constantly reinvented 3D museum space where modeled works of local and international artists are exhibited.
