Dale Lewis
This summer, Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal is pleased to welcome Dale Lewis in residence. The British artist will be in creative work (June 12 - July 25, 2018) and some of his works created in our studios will be included in the group exhibition Art & Pouvoir presented from Oct 1st to Déc 20, 2018 at Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal.
Dale Lewis’s paintings depict the artist’s personal experiences, painted from memory. Reflecting on the realities of contemporary urban life, he focuses on subjects drawn from his immediate environment - social immobility, consumerist excess, binge-drinking culture, gang violence, bad diet, class divides, family life and 9a.m. to 5p.m. jobs. Through disturbing carnivalesque atmospheres, he treats violence and injustice as dark comedies. His artwork features entangled, deformed and even hybrid figures in a deconstructed space reminiscent of certain pictorial influences, such as German expressionism.
