Ed Fornieles

This summer, Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal is pleased to welcome Ed Fornieles for a residency. The British artist will be in creative work (May 24 - July 28, 2016) for the group exhibition I feel we think bad presented from July 29 to Dec 23, 2016 at Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal, as well as for his solo exhibitions Stand by me presented from Jan 28 to Mar 4, 2017 at Galerie Division Toronto and The Finiliar presented from Feb 22 to Apr 23, 2017 at Arsenal Contemporary Art New York.

Fornieles works in a range of media, such as sculpture, installation and performance, to make work distinctly of our age, from popular movies and television characters to social media platforms. Hailed as a “post-internet” artist, he addresses the ways in which people portray themselves in the real world and online, along with all the decoys, masquerades and playacting that constitute their public and private identities. His work involves elaborate scenarios in which he invites participants to adopt alter egos and engage in role-playing. Using various reoccurring digital archetypes, Fornieles investigates the concepts of family, friendship, relationship, physical interaction and language.
